Illustation Assignment 3: State of Mind (Sketches + Ideas)

After doing the research I came up with a few sketches:

The setting for this one is in the forest:
At first the forest was brimming with life but then everything started to change. A man walked in the forest and was happy with what he saw at first but soon enough the animals became rabid and started attacking him. He gets lost in the forest, never able to find his way out. So he hangs himself.

Euphoria: The beautiful forest gleaming with life
Dysphoria: The dangers and horrors in the forest that caused the man to take his life.

This has more of an abstract approach to it. It starts out with a very happy person that enjoys drawing, but they soon see that there are better artists than them. The person gets depressed and soon begins to rot inside their own little world.

This is based off Adam Lambert's song Runnin'

It starts off with a man drinking bear because he can't handle real life any longer. But soon the alcohol starts kicking in and his world changes. The people turn into monsters. He turns away and runs, he soon comes across a DEAD END sign. With the monsters chasing him he has no where else to go. The floor beneath him cracks and he freefalls until he lands on a road. A car comes and hits him. He soon awakes in a beautiful place, a serene place. He finds himself standing in front of his own beating heart.

I decided to go with the last one. Runnin'.

I developed more on the sketches:

Concept is basically the same; just developed more on the sketches.

I also had an idea for how the monsters should look like.

At the end I decided for them to just have red eyes. The long/forked tongues were quite disturbing....

At last; The final sketches!

I am also considering doing a rose wilting and coming back to life. It shows rebirth and hope.

Technically this is what red roses represent:

Love, Beauty, Courage and Respect, Romantic Love, Congratulations, "I Love You", "Job Well Done", Sincere Love, Respect, Courage & Passion
